Envisioned as eight themed-based, self-guided tours, this series will be rolled out over the course of 2026 and beyond.

Created by MCHS in partnership with Morris County’s history community, they are designed to provide the public the opportunity to engage with local history and the topics that interest them at their convenience with the assistance of their phones. The tours weave together different sites across the county, highlighting their interconnectedness from the people who shaped them to the industries they served. Featuring sites rarely or infrequently open to the public, the tours are intended to facilitate engagement and inspire visitors to return during sites’ open hours.

Historic Preservation Tour

Highlighting the 18 sites across Morris County that have received more than $1 million in taxpayer funds via grants from the Morris County Historic Preservation Trust, the Historic Preservation tour recognizes the foresight of the Morris County Commissioners (then Freeholders) in establishing the Trust in 2002 and the municipalities and non-profit organizations who steward these sites and buildings, making them available for the public to enjoy.

Schoolhouse Tour

Welcoming students for over two centuries, Morris County’s historic schoolhouses each have a unique story to tell. Featuring dozens of schoolhouses all across Morris County, this tour not only illustrates generations of shared and universal experiences of schooling, it also highlights the restoration and reuse of these beloved historic buildings.

African-American Driving Tour

19 unique historic sites spread across Morris County from Ledgewood (West) to Riverdale (Northeast) to Chatham (Southeast), each with its own fascinating story waiting to be uncovered.
