Our Holdings

MCHS maintains in the public trust an extensive archival and object collection of nearly 15,000 items. Drawn largely from Morris County, and more broadly, New Jersey, it includes one of the richest, most diverse historic costume collections outside of New York City as well as business and legal source materials from the County’s earliest days.

19th Century Costumes

Our 19th-century costume collection contains articles of clothing for men, women, and children from the entire century.

Military Uniforms

This collection represents New Jersey veterans of the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War.

Local and Locally-Made Artifacts

Artifacts from local businesses, institutions, stores, craftsmen, and manufacturers.

20th Century Costumes

Spanning from 1900 to 1979, this collection includes everything from 1920s flapper-style beaded dresses to 1970s bell bottoms.

Wedding Gowns

Our single largest collection, comprised of gowns worn by New Jersey brides from 1805 to the 1980s.
