At the Dr. Lewis Condict House, also the headquarters of the Woman’s Club of Morristown at 51 South Street, is a display of Lafayette art and artifacts from three serious collectors including Lafayette’s personal seal, a circa 1824-25 transfer ware teapot with a Lafayette themed scene and an oil painting of our favorite Frenchman that has been seen in three museums and the Fraunces Tavern in New York City. Light refreshments available. Within walking distance of the Morristown Green. You may even meet Dr. Condict on the front porch!

The Lafayette Pop-Up Museum is free and open to the public for two days only—Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. No tickets or registration are required, but early arrival is encouraged to enjoy the full exhibit at your own pace.

The Morristown Green will be alive with activity, featuring interactive historical exhibits, children’s crafts, and photo opportunities with Lafayette, Alexander Hamilton, and George Washington. Don’t miss the grand regimental parade at 1:15 PM, complete with cannon fire, patriotic music, and a reenactment of Lafayette’s original welcome ceremony. Enjoy food trucks, free ice cream, and the world premiere of the “Lafayette Suite” by the Baroque Orchestra of NJ, the event is free and open to the public.

Bicentennial Tour
Throughout 2024–2025, the AFL (American Friends of Lafayette) will host educational programming across the United States and in France to commemorate the Bicentennial of Lafayette’s return to America as the “Guest of the Nation.” There will be hundreds of planned events, both in large cities such as New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Charleston, St. Louis, New Orleans, and Savannah, as well as in the multitude of small towns Lafayette visited, still brimming with pride that America’s favorite fighting Frenchman came through their municipality. Our goal is to educate the public about the roles played by both Lafayette and France in our war for independence. We will accomplish this through planned festivities, informative programming, and meaningful remembrances.

Since 1971, MCHS has been headquartered at Acorn Hall, an 1853 Italianate-style country home. MCHS operates the Hall as a house museum and uses its extensive collections and archive holdings to produce exhibitions, programs, and online content related to local and state history.
