Whippany River Clean-Up – Volunteers Needed!

March 16 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Join the Bethel Church of Morristown, Morris County Historical Society, and the Whippany River Watershed Action Committee for a clean-up of the Whippany River. Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot across from Bethel Church, 59 Spring Street. Supplies will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves. This year, in addition to critical work along the Whippany River, a perennial magnet for garbage, volunteers will have the opportunity to clean debris accumulated at the site of the first Bethel AME Church, also on Spring Street in Morristown. Completed in 1849, the sites of the church, which also served as the first school for African American children in the local area, and parsonage are an enduring symbol of Morristown’s rich African American history. In recognition of Women’s History Month, attendees will also have a chance to learn more about the women who were integral in the early history of this site.

Rain date is March 23.
